Quest for a new sewing machine...

I am thinking of buying a new sewing machine in January and I am having a hard time deciding on the type. Budget wise, I am leaning toward a Janome (MC6300-6600), Brother (PQ 1500s) or Baby Lock (Quest Plus). I hear Bernina is the Cadi of sewing machines but it is out of my price range. I am curious as to which brand/type you prefer or hate and why?

  1. I'd be the very last person in the world to advise even if it were to be a tredle machine.

  2. Hi Sylvia, I don't think you cann go wrong with any machine that you buy from a reputable dealer. Does your quilt shop sell machines. Some offer free lessons. I sew with a 1947 singer featherweight. I purchased this at a antique show. Humms along just fine. I also have a Janome and a Brother. Good Luck! and a Merry Christmas!!

Hi Linda! Good idea about the free lessons. I will look into this over the holidays.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you both.

  4. I have 3 Brother machines (embroider, quilting edition sewer and overlocker)and I have NEVER had a problem with any of them over the years.I even gave my daughter my old sewer and its still going strong...so I can recommend this brand at least. Hope this helps! :)

  6. hi
I have a wal-mart special Brother... And I can't complain about that... My Girlfriend over at Yankee Valley Stitcher (www.yankeevalleystitcher) loves the Janome, And if I would have found your blog sooner, I would have told you that she was selling that exact model.... Go to her blog and send her an email.... She will let you know where she traded it to - RedDeer...
    I hope that this helps....
