Happy Holidays!

It has been a crazy few months. I am back running and hoping to start half marathon training in January. My boyfriend and I went to the Dominican Republic for two weeks in November which was so beautiful and warm. And now Christmas is here! I have a week off work so I am pretty sure I will get more quilting done in one week than I have done in the last 3 months.

A few photos from the trip:

Fridays Kick A$$

Today.Was. Awesome.
Half day at work- I flexed the afternoon. Work has been go-go-go for the last few months so I was in dire need of some pampering. The weather was beautiful and hot. It's the middle of August and it finally feels like summer has arrived. I treated myself to a massage and Cappuccino Cookie Gelato. YUM! (I am going to pretend those calories don't count.... They never count on Fridays!). I made sure to get my afternoon run and weight training in too. I also got to sew a little bit today. I worked on a few more nine patches.

I started the nine patch quilt today!

The first block. Only 79 more to go....

I also picked up some goodies from my LQS. I am loving this "Fresh from the Prairies" quilt book.

My Time Mondays #2

I took my sewing machine in to see the 'doctor' for its annual checkup so for the next two weeks I need something to do. I drew up these little Tulip flowers and I decided I would make an applique with it. I am doing a trial run with some spare charm packs that MommaBird bought me. So far, I think they are pretty darn cute. I didn't add a stem because I wanted them to be a little more abstract.

I also got my hair cut today. Took off over 8" in the back. It's a tad shorter and darker than I requested but it will grow out. Not sure, I may look like a 'triangle head' when it's curly- I may have to go back for more layers. The good thing is that it is giving my hair a healthy fresh start now that all the bleached highlights are gone.

"My Time" Mondays

My BF has Muay Thai Kickboxing every Monday so this has become my main sewing day. It definitely helps relieve the stress from being back to work after the weekend too.

Tonight, I worked on the binding for JP's Favorite Things. Tomorrow, I will start hand stitching the backside of the binding. I also finished a little table runner for a friend. Can't wait to give it to her tomorrow; I hope she likes it.

The backing fabric.
Kansas City Star quilts also has an article that features my favorite LQS "Traditional Pastimes", check it out here:

Johnston Canyon Hike

Today, a few friends from my running club and I went hiking out west of Banff. We did the Johnston Canyon hike. It consists of two sets of large waterfalls- the Lower and Upper. 6 km to the top of the Johnston valley is the Ink Pots- six clear greenish pools filled with spring water. This water stays roughly 1 deg Celsius all year round. It was an awesome hike and the weather was beautiful. It took ~ 5 hours including a nice long lunch (with wine!).

Weekend wrap-up

This weekend has been wonderfully productive. The batting that I ordered from Connecting Threads arrived Friday, and I was able to assemble and pin my Favorite Things (FT) quilt. I also had a small UFO lying around- a small table topper of blocks that I received through Quilting Block Swap Australia.  I prepped and free-motioned quilted it. I wanted to ensure that I had my quilting "legs" back for when I tackled the FT. I hadn't free-motioned quilted since 2011!

One of my favorite purchases in my stash was this jelly roll from Quiltique in Las Vegas. I cut up the strips into 2.5" squares (768 in total!) for a new 9-patch quilt that I will start once I am done quilting the FT. Most of the fabrics are Hope Valley by Free Spirit.

And I got the last block for my Mom & Me quilt done as well.

UFO- pinned and ready to go
Lots of cutting...

Last block :)
