Weekend wrap-up

This weekend has been wonderfully productive. The batting that I ordered from Connecting Threads arrived Friday, and I was able to assemble and pin my Favorite Things (FT) quilt. I also had a small UFO lying around- a small table topper of blocks that I received through Quilting Block Swap Australia.  I prepped and free-motioned quilted it. I wanted to ensure that I had my quilting "legs" back for when I tackled the FT. I hadn't free-motioned quilted since 2011!

One of my favorite purchases in my stash was this jelly roll from Quiltique in Las Vegas. I cut up the strips into 2.5" squares (768 in total!) for a new 9-patch quilt that I will start once I am done quilting the FT. Most of the fabrics are Hope Valley by Free Spirit.

And I got the last block for my Mom & Me quilt done as well.

UFO- pinned and ready to go
Lots of cutting...

Last block :)

I have learned an important lesson....

PAY ATTENTION. I don't think I should ever watch TV and quilt at the same time. Huge mistakes like these tend to happen when I multitask....

I messed up the spinning star in the middle.

On a positive note- my seams really match up nicely on this block.

My Favorite Things quilt top is done! OMG

Me= Happy!

As with most JP quilt patterns, I had to "Macgyver" a few areas. Hopefully, they blend in well ;)

Yesterday, I popped in to my favorite LQS, Traditional Pastimes. I needed backing for my FT quilt. I picked up this lovely paisley "Fellowship" fabric (by Brannock & Patek for Moda). I also love this modern quilt book "100 Modern Quilt Blocks" by Tula Pink.

Here is all the goodies:

I have also been working on my Unnamed Jan Patek quilt. It is suppose to be a 5x5 block quilt, but I think it will be too girly for our bed so I have decided to cut it a row short and have it as a lap quilt instead. I have two more blue-y green blocks to go.

I have been trying to figure out possibly what color sashing and border I should go with. Maybe a darker inner border with a wider lighter outer border? What do you guys think on the sashing and borders?

Raining Outside = More Sewing Time

Last night I sat down at my machine to clear my head, and I got more accomplished then I thought I would. I  got part of my Favorite Things quilt top together.

I can't believe how fast three years goes by. I bought this kit in July of 2010, and I am JUST getting the quilt top together now. I am hoping to have the top done this week and then quilted by the end of September. I am pretty sure the free-motion quilting for this baby is going to drive me batty by the end. ha ha ha.
