Yesterday was my 30th birthday! I know, I know, I am still a young pup but it feels like yesterday that I started university, graduated university, started my first big job downtown etc. It is crazy how time does fly by. That being said, I had the BEST birthday. It was chalked full of great food drinks and all my best family and friends. I was definitely spoiled in the gift department (diamond earrings from my bf!!!). Mom and Dad got me some adorable fabric and my friend gave me a quilt shop gift card. That card lasted a whole 24 hours. "Hello, fatquartershop.com!".
Mom got me this super adorable layer cake by Sandy Gervais for Moda called Table for Two.
I plan on making this layer cake friendly pattern called Bella Notte. I will use the layer cake to make the stars.
I ordered this fabric for the neutral background, the binding and backing from FQS (in order):
I did end up braving the cold weather and went to the quilt shop. I bought the border, binding and backing fabric for my "Mom & Me" quilt; along with some lilac coloured binding fabric for a couple other small projects. For the Mom & Me quilt, I went with a blue border. I quite like it.
Here is the quilt top:
Tomorrow, we are running 9 km. I am fairly certain it is going to suck....
I woke up this morning to a temperature of -43 degrees (with the wind chill) and decided it is a perfect day to stay in and quilt. I am also thinking that fresh baked scones and bread may be in order too.
I finished my nine-patch, washed it and attached a quilting label. Usually, I go for a boring old square label but I made a heart shaped one instead. Gotta shake things up now and then ;)

My boyfriend also got into my sewing supplies. It makes me laugh every time I look at this. ha ha
I just got the inner portion of the JP "Mom & Me" quilt together. What a nightmare to get the blocks to fit nicely. I ended up having to do a mild patch job at the end so there wasn't a huge gap on the right hand side of the flying geese block (2nd from bottom right). Hopefully, it isn't too noticeable.
In true Canadian fashion, I am not going to let a little cold weather stop me from going out to my LQS to get some border fabric. (I did go for a run yesterday and it was -30). I am leaning towards possibly a blue border or maybe a green.
